More than 900 hill drag race entries greeted us north of the border at the Calabogie 500, hosted by Calabogie Peaks Resort in southeast Ontario last Saturday.

This second-year event sanctioned by Northeast Snowmobile Racing (NSR) was a thrilling way to wrap up the season out east. Around 2,000 spectators were wowed as 933 entries in 43 classes (from 120cc sleds to high-HP Outlaws) made their mad dash up the slopes on a sunny, 40-degree day.

When the snow dust finally settled after seven hours racing action, it was Chris Rositano’s “Under Pressure” sled that came away the clear winner of the Outlaw class, going undefeated on the day. Rositano also claimed the King of the Hill Power Adder title.

The largest class was the Stock 800 with 49 entries. Anthony Fortin took the win on his Ski-Doo. Eythan Poirier took home the King of the Hill N/A title. Full results for all classes can be found on the NSR results page.

The crews from Northeast Snowmobile Racing and Calabogie Peaks Resort do an outstanding job putting on this race. It’s one of the most fan-friendly events in the region, with views of the hill available near the starting line, from the outdoor deck and bar area, or inside the cozy lodge. And with racers taking off about every 45 seconds, the action is constant!

Next season’s Calabogie 500 is already in the works for April 2018. Be sure to check the NSR website for more information.
