Bold? Yes! Yamaha intros a new line of Vipers into its 4-stroke collection of stealthy sleds.[/caption]If you are talking 4-stroke engines, Yamaha is at the top of the game. If you are talking newest chassis, Cat is sitting on a new platform that has been widely praised.
So why not put them together and have the holy grail of 4-stroke snowmobiles?
That is what Yamaha is hoping to do with its new SR Viper for 2014. It will be powered by what most people know as the Nytro motor (a Genesis 3 cylinder, 1049cc fuel injected, naturally aspirated motor putting out 135+ ponies).
There will be some changes to fit it into the Cat-supplied lightweight rider-forward chassis, including a newly routed exhaust, fuel mapping and clutching.

Viper will come in a coupled 129-inch track length in both a standard package with comfort-tuned HPG front coil-over shocks and comfort-tuned rear skid and an upgraded rough trail package called the RTX SE with FOX Float 2 shocks up front and rebuildable HPG aluminum shocks in the rear skid.
The new Viper also will come in a coupled 137-inch length track and will be designated the SR Viper LTX, with an upgraded LTX SE version also available.
Finally, there will be a longer tracked uncoupled 141-inch version dubbed the SR Viper XTX SE with Float shocks up front, a rebuildable HPG front track shock and a Float 2 rear shock.
