Before the new 2014 SR Viper roles down the production line, Yamaha has released a list of  changes to meet quality standards on its joint venture with Arctic Cat.

The changes came after the new model was tested up until June by Yamaha.

Here are the updates:

Changes to the clutch include a new belt to match new center distance. The new part number for the SR Viper belt is 8JP17641. The new belt is the same compound as the 8DN belt that Yamaha has used in the past. Some good news from this change is the suggested retail price is $100.

Replacing Cat's automatic tensioner system and billet gears is a new manual chain tensioner. The chaincase has been upgraded to include a 13 link Borg Warner Chain. The new chain is not the exact part number as the Apex chain, but is a similar type.  Yamaha reports it has a longer chain life and 500 mile service interval. In addition, an update to billet cut non-cast gears will have more durability.[/caption]

Extrovert drivers will now be used on its' RipSaw track to reduce ratcheting and increase chain life. The extrovert drivers are the same as what was formerly on the Nytro.

An aluminum crossbrace will increase rigidity at the engine mount. The new crossbrace is right at the front heat exchanger mount.

Factory built aluminum tunnel protectors will reduce track slap. The torsional rigidity of the Viper is much better with the tunnel protectors.

The seat foam AmSnow rode on last Spring during the Spring photo shoot has been slightly softened. In addition, a new latch system has been added on the back of the seat with a bolt and a thicker seat pan. The plastic frame under the seat is the seat pan.

For an improved look, Yamaha has painted the aluminum radiators black. Protective hood screens have, also, been added to the Viper.

Originally, the SR Viper SE models were to be built with FOX Float 2 shocks. This has been upgraded with FOX Float 3 shocks. This new shock comes in a Kashima Coating for reduced friction and a Samurai Sealing System for added durability.
