Racer reaches 152.65 mph at NSSR's Lake Menomin

Rick Schellbach reached 152.65 mph at National Straightline Snowmobile Racing’s first event of the year in Menomonie, Wis.

Schellbach piloted his Open Mod 1100 which is a 2000 Union Bay Ultra Mod at 152.650 mph down the 1000 foot Ice Track the top speed of the day

Temperatures ranged from 18 to 31 degrees F with a brisk breeze from the West ranging from 8 to 17 mph which created a good cross wind during the day. Skies were mostly cloudy during the day with humidity high at 89%. The track was aimed South. This race was held in conjunction with the “Operation Tip Up” held on Lake Menomin and was a fishing extravaganza held for troops and veterans in their appreciation.

Racer entries included nearly 70 on the pro track and over 60 on the Radar Run track for nearly 550 passes between the two shaved ice tracks.  NSSR racers posted four new World Records at this race, despite the high humidity and strong cross wind. The Vintage classes continue to grow in both the pro and radar run competition.  We are also excited about the new Improved Stock Twin 800 class and see this growing in the next few races. Mark Kulenkamp brought his 2004 ski doo MXZ 800 to set a new record in this class at 112.793 mph and says he is coming back to bump it up! Samy Christianson posted a 82.917 mph pass on her 1978 Ski Doo Blizzard to bump up her previously held Vintage Stock C Record! Sheridan Christianson also posted a 70.588 mph pass on her 1980 Ski Doo Citation to bump her record in the Vintage E Class. Brent Kollmann of New Ulm, Minnesota rode his 1984 Polaris Indy in the Vintage Open class to a new record at 121.690 mph. All records require a run within 2% to back up their World Record run!  Nearly 400 fans and race supporters were on hand to witness the record setting runs throughout the day.

The battle of the day was in the Pro Stock 1000 class between Mike Cleary and Joe Kittel of Straightline Performance both running in the 144 mph area and with Mike Cleary keeping the win at 144.723, but only 0.242 mph over Kittel. The Stock 800 Single Pipe class heated up as the three Artic Cats battled it out for first place. Brandon Damask of Go Fast Racing prevailed at a speed of 114.134 mph on his 2011 Arctic Cat CFR.
