Todd Krikke of Hudsonville, Mich. raced his way to the winner’s circle aboard his vintage Polaris at Sunday’s Vintage World Championships at the Eagle River Derby Track.
Krikke looked in complete control of the race as he opened up a wide margin on the field of 12 through the first half of the race, but a red-flag crash stopping the race brought the field within striking distance with a staggered restart.
With two laps to go, another crash sent a driver sliding into the hay bales and a sled tumbling down the track. The field was once again stopped restarted from staggered positions. This time Krikke was able to hold off a hard-charging Kevin Flannery in the races final turn to complete the wire-to-wire win. Flannery finished in second with Ryan Dethloff coming in third.
After the win, Krikke proudly hoisted the American Snowmobiler American Eagle Trophy presented to the winner of the Vintage World Championship each year.
The Vintage World Championship takes place one week before the Eagle River World Championship Derby which runs Jan. 16 – 19, 2014. For more information go to http://www.derbytrack.com/.
