We finally touched down back home after a long, but extremely awesome weekend at the American Snowmobiler / DynoTech Research NY Shootout. These were some of the best track conditions we’ve ever had for a snow drag event. Hard pack, 28-degrees and no wind to speak of made for some very quick times down the 1/4 mile.
Our stockers were again supplied by the good folks at D&D Performance (Yamaha, Arctic Cat – www.ddracing.com), Fun Unlimited (Polaris – www.fununlimitedpolaris.com) and CJ Motorsports (Ski-Doo – www.cjmotorsportsonline.com). At the end of the day, nine stock sleds showed off their goods straight out of the box. It was the tightest competition we’ve ever had at the shootout. One class was separated by less than 0.5 mph! The main takeaway from this year’s stock runs… It’s a good time to be a consumer in the sled industry!
Of course, we’ll have full coverage of the event, including dyno numbers, acceleration runs and top speeds from all four OEMs in our February issue. It’s available on newsstands January 20 or you can subscribe here. You can also check out the full dyno charts at DynoTech Research (www.dynotechresearch.com).
But stockers aren’t the only sleds that come out to play at the New York Shootout. We had a full stable of trail mods and Lake Racers stampeding down the track as well. The high-horse iron put on a crowd pleasing display with speeds in excess of 130 mph! Be sure to pick up your copy of the February issue to get in on all the action!
We also took the opportunity to do a little exploring of the Old Forge, N.Y. area on our own. A nice little Saturday trail ride with Shootout stock sled pilot, Nick Pryputniewicz of Curve Industries, was just the ticket. This gem of a riding area offers the trail and backcountry enthusiast a fantastic blend of riding variety, accompanied by scenic views and quaint towns welcoming all riders. Look for more coverage of the Old Forge, N.Y. area in the travel section of an upcoming AmSnow issue.
