Ice oval racer extraordinaire, Malcolm Chartier, has announced his retirement from competitive ice oval racing after 15 seasons.
"I have decided to take a different career path that heads me in a direction for the future of our family business," a statement from Chartier read. "It was a very hard decision for me to make, especially with the many years of racing and the close connections we have in the industry."
Very much still in top racing form, the Fair Haven, Mich., native was never one to be far from the winners circle finishing third in the TLR Cup overall points standings last season. He took home the top honors in three of nine races in the 2015 season. Some of Chartier's career highlights include back-to-back TLR Cup points championships in the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Those two seasons also included back-to-back wins at the Eagle River World Championship. 2014 saw him win the Grand Prix Ski Doo de Valcourt. His 2013 season was particularly impressive as Chartier went on to win five of six TLR Cup races that season.
"Although I won't be racing, I'm looking forward to staying in touch with the industry and supporting the future of ice oval racing," said Chartier's statement.
His plans after racing include continuing to work with Mike Houle on chassis development, and assisting sponsors and suppliers with research and future product development.
