The Snowmobiling Trip of a Lifetime

Not long ago, AmSnow editor Mark Boncher received an email from reader. It read:

Dear Mr. Boncher,

My son Joe, like so many other readers of your magazine, has a true passion for snowmobiling, born at a very early age.  At 2, he was riding his Kitty Cat in circles, tethered to a rope with a rubber band around the throttle ‘til he ran out of gas.

By the time he was college age, snowmobiling was not just a hobby, but a career choice. Determined to find a career in Thief River Falls or Roseau, Minn., he recently graduated from the Watson School of Engineering in Binghamton University with a Mechanical Engineering degree. Shortly after graduation, he landed his first job offers with Hitachi and Denso Automotive. A few days later, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 bone cancer. All his aspirations are on hold for the moment as he fights this battle first.

I shared this story with a company called Motorfist. Joe has a small sponsorship with them that provides discounts on gear and apparel, in support of his hillclimbing and cross country racing efforts. He is a huge fan of their factory-sponsored riders, Rob Kincaid and Dave McClure. I was immediately contacted by Jared Burt of Motorfist to arrange a trip for Joe to go out to Idaho Falls from New York, meet with them, and ride for a day with none other than Rob Kincaid and Dave McClure. All this for a perfect stranger, other than another member of the “snowmobile family.”

I just wanted to share with your readers what a quality company, run by quality people, Motorfist is. It is no wonder why the best in the business like Rob and Dave would align themselves with them.

Needless to say, the trip was the thrill of a lifetime for Joey, one he will never forget. Thank you, Motorfist.

Joe sounds like an incredible person, and we at AmSnow feel blessed that John shared his story with us. Kudos to Jared and the folks at Motorfist for stepping up and helping to make this young man's dreams come true! Here is a video about Joe's story, released recently by Motorfist.
