A turbocharged Can-Am Spyder concept vehicle is certainly something to take note of!
In a meshing of motorsport technologies, BRP took pieces of the Sea-Doo RXP X 300 and its Rotax 1630 ACE, 300-hp supercharged engine, and combined it with aspects of the Can-Am Maverick Turbo SxS (976cc Rotax turbocharged V-twin) to create a turbocharged version of the Rotax 1330 Spyder F3 engine.
The new intercooled, in-line 3-cylinder turbo engine iteration generates 150 horses at 6800 RPM for the Spyder. Multiple race-inspired features include racing slicks, unique Akropivic 3-to-3 straight pipe exhaust, FOX high performance shocks, oversized hood and air intake, and a NASCAR-inspired front spoiler and graphics.
Along with the turbo engine making its Spyder debut, the vehicle also gets a SPORT mode – another Spyder first. SPORT mode allows for controlled rear tire drifting, providing another fun aspect for the rider.
Numbers released from BRP have the turbo Spyder clocking a 1/4-mile in 12.3 seconds, and accelerating 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds.
“It’s a privilege to welcome BRP to the Daytona International Speedway family with its Can-Am brand,” said Joie Chitwood III, Dayton International Speedway President. “Can-Am is a great brand to have here with us to kick off the NASCAR season and Daytona even helped inspire a concept vehicle which we unveiled here today for all our fans to see.”
The Can-Am Spyder concept will be on display, along with other Can-Am products, at track Midway areas throughout the NASCAR season, including Daytona International Speedway. Unfortunately for Spyder consumers, BRP made very clear in their press release that this vehicle is NOT planned for production. So … the OEM is really just showing off, this time.
