[caption image="/cfs-file.ashx/__key/communityserver-blogs-components-weblogfiles/00-00-00-00-38/3247.R-4.jpg" position="right"]Photo by Rick Dobson[/caption]The NSSR race that was scheduled to take place in Chetek, Wis., this weekend has been cancelled due to insufficient ice and safety concerns for racers and spectators alike. It will not be rescheduled.
There is still around 19 inches of ice on Lake Chetek in the middle of the lake, with some areas by the shore being at 14 inches. However, they did not get the cooler temps during the week that were needed build up more ice for the event. Saturday's forecast shows 50 F temps with the potential to break high-temp records set in 1896.
The Chetek Winter Fest activities will still go on. On Saturday, there will be a bikini run along the Lake Chetek shoreline to raise money for the fight against cancer. The NSSR will be present, along with the Chamber of Commerce to make this event happen around 1 p.m.
