If you’re an avid AmSnow reader, then you know we’ve always got some variation of the X-RS in our demo fleet! This year it was the 2016 Ski-Doo MXZ X-RS, newly minted in a 129-inch skid, but with all the features we love!
One of the big changes for 2016 was the aforementioned track length (15x129x1.25 Ice Ripper XT). Kudos to Ski-Doo for that move, as the 129-inch (and 137-inch) length has become a favorite among our test crew. Stutter bumps are bridged better, and hookup is also improved.
The other big addition was the optional Pilot TS adjustable skis. They made a good first impression on us during our early demo rides last spring (on extreme hard pack), but after a full season in varying conditions, we haven’t been totally won over by them. As the snow loosens, they become a little unpredictable at the wrong time in some tight corners. Not something you want to happen when you’re pushing this performance machine to its full potential! We replaced the stock ski "blades" with longer 7.5-inch carbide blades out of Ski-Doo’s accessory catalog, and that made a WORLD of a difference. We are still testing them, but initial results are positive.
