Some mileage may be added on for Tupper Lake and Onchiota, New York trails after a Franklin County, New York snowmobile trail was removed from a state map, according to Press Republican.com.

The trail between Malone and Constable was dropped off the New York state 2014-15 trail map compiled the State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, said Dave Knapp of the Franklin Snowmobilers Inc., who is the county’s representative on the State Snowmobile Association.

He said the state agency doesn’t think the site qualifies as a trail. But he told county legislators he would be resubmitting the data for the next map in hopes of convincing officials that the dead-end road is an important community connector linking popular trails to each other.

A proposal was submitted for the trail to be added to the 2015-16 map so it can be included in the funding mechanism.

That one stretches between Little Wolf Pond in Tupper Lake and the St. Lawrence County Town of Piercefield.

“It runs parallel to the rail corridor,” Knapp said.

A third location that runs parallel to an existing trail between Onchiota and Kushaqua-Mud Pond Road in the Town of Franklin will also be submitted for possible future inclusion on the map as an alternate to the main trail there, he said.
